Call for UMASS Volunteers – NETA 2023 Conference

March 26, 2023 by UMass Boston's Translation Certificate Program

Below please see the call for volunteers from the New England Translators Association.

_________________________________________________________________________________

NEW ENGLAND TRANSLATORS ASSOCIATION VIRTUAL CONFERENCE
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

Volunteer for our 27th Annual Conference on April 29, 2023

The annual NETA conference is the highlight of our programming season. It offers a full day of presentations for translators, interpreters, language students, and anyone interested in translation and interpreting. Volunteering for the conference is an excellent way to go behind the scenes, meet the experts and get involved in our language community!

Every year, we count on UMass student volunteers to help make things go smoothly throughout the day, and this year we are offering UMass students the opportunity to win one of two NETA memberships! For each hour that a student volunteers, your name will be entered in the raffle to win a one-year New England Translators Association membership. Being a part of the NETA organization will connect you to the T&I world beyond school, as well as help to get your name out there!

The benefits include:

  • Free admission to monthly professional development events
  • Individual listing on our website Services Directory
  • Emailed job opportunities
  • Quarterly newsletter
  • Discount on annual conference
  • Networking opportunities
  • Seasonal social events
  • Opportunities to get involved in programs to benefit translators and interpreters
2 UMB STUDENT NAMES WILL BE DRAWN AT THE END OF THE CONFERENCE

What we are looking for:
We need volunteer monitors for the virtual presentation sessions and writers to write an article or short summary of the presentations for the summer newsletter.

Volunteer with us on Saturday, April 29th, to have some fun behind the scenes while helping to make our 27th annual conference a success. Simply click on the link and sign up for your session(s) of choice: https://signup.com/go/RJKZDyt

Feel free to reach out to Inés by email if you have any questions at ines@inesfusco.com. We look forward to meeting new volunteers!

Thank you!

Volunteering Opportunity at the Virtual TPS Clinic

August 19, 2022 by UMass Boston's Translation Certificate Program

COI is currently seeking volunteers to help Venezuelan, Ukrainian, and Cameroonian migrants apply for Temporary Protected Status (TPS). TPS is a temporary immigration status provided to nationals of specifically designated countries that are confronting a problem that makes it difficult or unsafe for their nationals to return there, such as an ongoing armed conflict, environmental disaster, or other extraordinary and temporary conditions.
The next TPS clinic will be held today and Friday August 18-19. During the clinic, volunteer “Form Preparers” will be paired with a client and interpreter, and the Form Preparer will help the applicant complete their TPS application. Experienced immigration attorneys will be available to answer questions and will review draft applications before they are filed. In advance of your shift, you will receive links to training videos, FAQs and a Tip Sheet that will help you prepare for your shift. This opportunity is appropriate for lawyers, law students and paralegals. We are in desperate need a few more Spanish interpreters on Thursday, but our main need is for Spanish, Ukrainian, and Russian interpreters on Friday.
If you are interested in volunteering at the virtual TPS Clinic today or Friday, please sign up here: bit.ly/TPSVol2022 .**Please note, the times provided for clinic shifts are in Eastern Time.**
